The saga continues

If you too are a Star Wars fan, you will probably have heard that George Lucas is retiring. He has been saying this for many years and during the press tour of his latest film Red Tails (released this week on DVD) he repeatedly said how he wanted to get out of mainstream films.

Today the unbelievers have been silenced. Lucasfilm has been sold to Disney for $4.05 billion.

In an absolutely gobsmacking deal, the House of Mouse have just added another powerhouse to their pockets, bulging as they are from the weight of Pixar and Marvel.

And the icing on the cake? Star Wars 7 is expected in 2015.

It’s too soon to work out how I feel, this is just huge. For the full press release, click here.

Apparently Disney is a nightmare place to work now, and not what it used to be like in it’s heyday. Also apparently the director of Tangled quit after working on Tangled (his first job at Disney) because the bad experience he had.

I know that Brave went through several directors too, so I’d agree that they have a bad reputation. They can change though, so I like to give them the benefit of the doubt.

There are going to be a lot of different styles of filmmakers working there now though. I’m thinking of the crossover potential though, which is quite exciting; Wall-e, C-3PO and Iron Man in the same scene would be truly amazing.
